WHAT WE LOVE
WHAT WE LOVE
We all have dreams, ambitions, hopes. Or do we? Sometimes when we are at our lowest, it is hard to think of what these are.
In childhood, we had certain ideas about what life was about...what we would become, perhaps. Or did we?
Having hopes, dreams ideas and projecting into the future are signs that we are emotionally healthy. The lack of these things denotes a destructive downturn into a state of apathy or depression.
When I have been at my lowest ebb, I found it helpful to remind myself of what my dreams and hopes had been and are. It sounds very simple, but actually, I found it quite hard. In asking those questions, we are faced with many important filters, acquired through experience and cemented over the years into concrete beliefs. Are my dreams and hopes purely materialistic? Does it matter? Are my beliefs rooted in the way that I live my life? Are these hopes going to make me feel that my life has a purpose, or will they help me to come to terms with the eternal questions of morality, mortality, and self-worth?
What do you love, hope for, dream of, and wish to be?
It's useful to start somewhere. I love the Alhambra...here I am painting it in a semi-realistic way. It is a painting which is enabling me to meditate and to focus. The Alhambra is covered in texture and pattern and photographs are often ill-equiped to capture those things that would give some understanding of the structures and the spaces therein.
To be continued....
